Presidents Message WINTER...
Almost gone! Let's think back, we've had some interesting meetings and
happenings during these last months. Col. Robert Spencer, cousin of Princess
Diana, spoke to us in October, giving us some insight about the Queen. Our
member, Isabelle Paul, hosted a special reception at her palatial home for
him. He had time to visit some of our historic sites while here, thanks to
Ann Schrimpf and Sylvia Benjamin. We enjoyed his visit and he enjoyed meeting
us.
Shakespeare Competition…
Almost here! Come join us in observing this fantastic display of our young
high school students' talents. Remember, our local winner last year, Joe Sofranko,
went to New York City and won the title for the whole United States... a first
for Cincinnati! He shared this experience with us at the November meeting.
Is it possible to have another national winner from Cincinnati, you bet!
Remaining programs...
Coming up! They are interesting and varied, check out the calendar on
the following pages. Thanks to those of you who have given us suggestions
of prospective speakers.
Patron Reception...
Time to plan! Would you or someone you know, like to host the event this
year? It is on a Sunday afternoon in April when we thank all of our Patrons
for their support at this level.
"Creating global understanding through English"…
The ESU mission. The English-Speaking Union of The United States has been
working to make the world a bit smaller. With the help of the Internet and
Global Conversations, the initiative that was launched at the World Members'
Meeting last October, you and all ESU members around the world are able to
conduct online conversations and really get to know each other. With the dedicated
chat feature, you can actually participate in a real-time conversation with
someone thousands of miles away. To learn more about Global Conversations
from the National ESU website, click on www.global-conversations.org. It's
new, it's exciting and it's here! Thank you for your attendance and active
participation.
Keep your thoughts and suggestions coming (513-745-9848).
